Farewell to needle, thread and sewing machines. Welcome to the automated revolution of clothing. You can almost hear it fade away, that nostalgic hum of a Singer, as it gives way to the cold and precise rhythm of a robotic assembly line. Today, saying goodbye to the thread of tradition and even to the signature of the tailor is no longer an exaggeration. It is the tangible promise of a new era in fashion, where robotic arms and micro-adhesives replace hands and stitches, guiding the textile industry toward a faster and more sustainable future.

At the center of this transformation is CreateMe, a California-based startup with more than 90 patents, and the developer of MeRA™, a platform that automates every stage of production. Using Pixel™, a digitally applied adhesive that replaces the traditional needle, the system can produce up to 250 garments per hour, reducing time and waste while promising recyclability at the end of a product’s life cycle. The result is striking: from technical underwear to T-shirts, garments can now be created without a single conventional seam.

Yet CreateMe is not the only player on this runway of innovation. The field is quickly filling with companies that are redefining the boundaries of textile production. Softwear Automation, also based in the United States, leads with its Sewbots, robots equipped with computer vision capable of sewing basic garments such as T-shirts to industrial standards. Sewbo has taken a different path, developing a process that temporarily stiffens fabrics, enabling robots to handle elastic or complex materials and opening the door to fully automated garment assembly.

From Japan, pioneers such as 3D-TEX, Shima Seiki and Stoll are advancing 3D knitting technology, producing seamless knitwear without stitching or assembly. Meanwhile, historic manufacturers including Juki, Brother and Audaces are investing in advanced techniques such as ultrasonic welding and adhesive bonding for technical garments, combined with integrated production software and AI-driven quality control systems.

In this fast-moving landscape, CreateMe remains a front-runner in a parade of robots, algorithms and intelligent materials. Yet as the industry accelerates toward automation, the soul of needle and thread is preserved in haute couture and true craftsmanship, realms that are not measured in garments per hour but in patient gestures, quiet dedication and invisible stitches that carry timeless stories.
